GALESBURG SWIMMING
Galesburg edges Metamora
GALESBURG — The Galesburg High School girls swimming and diving team downed Metamora 105-75 Tuesday at Mustain Pool.
The Streaks finished first and second in one-meter diving with Dulce Felix Lopez (179.60) finishing ahead of Molly Pettit (169.10).
Galesburg’s Kyle Tapper, Tori Robinson, Chloe Putnam and Alli Robinson joined forces for the 200 yard medley relay, and they won in 2:07.18.
Putnam took first in the 200 IM in 2:32.62, and Tapper won the 100 backstroke in 1:08.14. The Streaks’ Olivia Owen placed first in the 50 free (27.33), and the 100 butterfly (1:10.55).
Tori Robinson finished first in the 100 free in 1:01.03 and in the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.37.
Allie Warren touched the wall first in the 500 free in 5:44.91, and Galesburg’s 400 free relay team — Warren, Tapper, Tori Robinson, and Owen — won in 4:06.42.
AREA VOLLEYBALL
Titans down Rockets
ROCKRIDGE — The Monmouth-Roseville volleyball team downed Rockridge on Tuesday night in straight sets 25-23, 25-18.
Carmyn Huston had 16 assists, six digs and three aces to lead the Titans.
Brooke Kane and Brianna Woodard had six kills each for Mon-Rose. Woodard also had a block, as did Isabel Sikorski and Kane. Mattie Gillen chipped in for digs for the Titans.
MEN’S SOCCER
Knox defeats Monmouth
MONMOUTH — The Knox College men’s soccer team defeated Monmouth 4-2 Tuesday afternoon.
Alex White got the scoring started for the Prairie Fire when Giuseppe Ceschia hit him for a goal in the 19th minute. Ceschia also assisted on a goal by Joey Dorgan, Jr. just a few minutes later.
Luis Silva added a goal in the 39th minute to give Knox a 3-0 edge heading into halftime. The Prairie Fire outshot the Fighting Scots 10-3 in the first half and looked to have the game well in hand.
Martin Garcia tacked on another Knox goal at the 50:39 mark to take a 4-0 lead.
Monmouth got on the board with 17 minutes to play. Conner Graham dished an assist to Nico Esparon and the senior bagged his second goal of the season. With just under five minutes to play, the Scots’ Montgomery Schroeder was fouled just outside the box and to the right of the goal. Esparon sent the free kick into the back post and Seth Andersen, a Galesburg native, scored off it via a header.
Sandburg stays ranked at No. 10
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team remained at No. 10 for the second straight week in the latest NJCAA Division II rankings, released Monday.
Sandburg (9-1 overall, 6-1 Region IV) picked up a pair of blowout road victories last week, defeating Richard J. Daley 11-0 last Tuesday and Lake County 6-0 on Saturday.
The Chargers received 77 points in this week’s voting, seven points behind No. 9 Ancilla. They’ve been ranked in all seven polls this season and in nine in a row dating back to last spring. Sandburg has been ranked as high as No. 8 this season.
The Chargers’ next game is 4 p.m. Thursday at second-ranked Prairie State (9-1, 6-0) in a matchup of the top two teams in Region IV.
JR. HIGH FOOTBALL
Tigers top Titans
The Monmouth-Roseville Junior High football team was defeated by Sherrard 22-8 Tuesday night.
The Titans’ Jason Engle had a 14-yard reception from Calogero Sarcomo. Tatum Crain had a 17-yard TD run. David Crain caught the two point conversion from Sarcomo.
Evan Bennett and Asa Braun each had multiple tackles for Mon-Rose.
REC GOLF
Bondi fires 2nd career ace
GALESBURG — Bob Bondi carded a hole-in-one Wednesday at Soangetaha Country Club.
He accomplished the feat on hole No. 2 with an eight iron from 155 yards out. Witnesses included Bob Lindsay, Joe Radosevich, and Tracy Knisely.
It was Bondi’s second career ace.
