Titans move to 5-1 overall
MONMOUTH — The Monmouth-Roseville football team downed Orion 34-28 on Thursday night.
It was the first victory for the Titans against the Chargers since Roseville High School consolidated with Monmouth High School in the summer of 2005 to form the Monmouth-Roseville school district.
Mon-Rose quarterback Silas Braun completed 10 of 14 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. Braun, who threw two interceptions, also had 16 rushes for 136 yards and three touchdowns.
Charlie Fletcher had four grabs for 94 yards and a TD for the Titans. Derek Chandler hd 26 carries for 145 yards and a touchdown for M-R (5-1) against Orion (2-4.
REGIONAL GIRLS GOLF
CLASS 2A
Pair of Streaks advance to sectional
ROCK ISLAND — Galesburg High School girls golfers Ashley Yoder and Gracey Miyler both advanced to compete in sectional action.
Yoder, a freshman, carded an 89, and Miyler, a junior, finished with a 95 Thursday in Class 2A regional play at Highland Springs Golf Course . Normal U-High junior Reagan Kennedy took medalist honors with a 68.
Abby Phillips (96), Cora Johnson (103) and Finley Kane (153) also hit the links for the Silver Streaks, who finished seventh as a team (383). U-High won the regional title with a 307.
Miyler and Yoder will compete in the sectional at Quail Meadows in Washington on Monday.
CLASS 1A
Four area girls qualify for sectional
SHERRARD — Knoxville senior Kaci Luptak, West Central junior Elaina Fisher, Galva junior Taylor Haga and United senior Addyson Trego will all take part in sectional action at Kewanee’s Dunes Golf Course next week.
All four qualified for the event, which is Oct. 4, after advancing out of regional play Thursday.
Luptak carded a 92, Fisher finished with a 95, and Haga finished two strokes ahead of Trego with a 102 at Fyre Lake in Sherrard.
Macomb senior Lily Vardaman was awarded the medalist at the regional after firing a 75. The Bombers won the regional title (343).
United finished in sixth place (437), West Central took seventh (444), Bushnell-Prairie City finished with a 461 behind Elmwood (449). Brimfiled placed 10th with a 470, and ROWVA/Williamsfield’s girls combined for a 478.
COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Chargers swept by No. 4 Skyhawks
DIXON — Fourth-ranked Sauk Valley swept the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team 25-20, 25-19, 25-12 in an Arrowhead Conference match Thursday night.
Sophomore Carley Reeves-Eakins led the Chargers (13-10 overall, 3-2 Arrowhead) with nine kills and two blocks while posting a team-high .278 hitting percentage.
Carmyn Baldwin had 21 assists and tied Megan Crome for the team lead with two aces. Sandburg also got 15 digs from libero Jasmin McDaniel.
Of Sandburg’s 10 losses this season, six have come against nationally-ranked opponents.
JR. HIGH GIRLS BASKETBALL
Streaks handle Farmers
FARMINGTON — The Galesburg seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both grabbed wins against Farmington on Thursday.
The Streaks’ seventh grade squad handed the Farmers a 48-6 loss while Galesburg eighth graders beat Farmington 28-14.
Khloe May had 13 points, and Sophia Kisler chipped in eight points for the Streaks’ eighth grade squad.
In seventh grade action, Galesburg was led by Jozalyn Kilgore’s 18 points, and Grace Herchendroder added 14.
