MEN’S SOCCER
Sandburg moves up 2 spots in rankings
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team matched its highest ranking in program history by moving up two spots to No. 8 in Monday’s NJCAA Division II poll.
The Chargers (9-2 overall, 6-2 Region IV) jumped up in the rankings despite dropping their only game last week, a 3-2 overtime defeat Thursday at second-ranked Prairie State. The loss snapped a string of three straight victories for Sandburg.
Sandburg received 81 points in this week’s poll and is directly behind No. 7 Morton, which the Chargers defeated earlier this season. Sandburg has been ranked in all eight polls this season and in 10 in a row dating back to last spring. The Chargers were also ranked No. 8 in this season’s Sept. 13 poll.
Sandburg’s next game is 4 p.m. Wednesday at South Suburban.
AREA VOLLEYBALL
Ridgewood falls to MerCo
ALEDO — The Ridgewood volleyball team fell to Mercer County 25-17, 25-11 on Monday night.
Brooklyn Jones dished out nine assists and had an ace for the Spartans. Hallica Warren-Anderson had seven digs and an ace. Paige Leander had six kills and a three blocks, and Carmen Stahl had 14 service points for Ridgewood.
In other area volleyball action, Galva downed Stark County 25-21 25-18.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Knox’s Fay competes in SLIAC championships
SPRINGFIELD — Hayden Fay represented Knox College’s women’s golf team at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Women’s Golf Championships at The Rail Golf Course over the weekend.
The three-day event was cut short due to weather on Monday, so the first two rounds will be the final scores.
Fay competed as an individual for the Prairie Fire with a consistent score of 222 (111 each round) and was a named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
JR. HIGH GIRLS BASKETBALL
Galesburg’s squads fall at Dunlap Valley
DUNLAP — The Galesburg junior high girls basketball teams both suffered losses to Dunlap Valley on the road Monday night.
The Streaks’ seventh graders fell 34-31 while Galesburg’s eighth grade squad was routed 55-11.
Jozalyn Kilgore finished with 16 points, and Ella Herchendroder added six points for Galesburg in seventh grade action.
Khloe May had a handful of points for the Streaks’ eighth graders.
