COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Monmouth handles Lawrence 42-0
APPLETON, Wis. — The Monmouth College football team picked up its first shutout of the 2021 season with a 42-0 win at Lawrence on Saturday.
The Fighting Scots scored 21 points in the first quarter and led 35-0 at half while improving to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Midwest Conference.
After turning the ball over on the first drive, Monmouth scored on four straight possessions in the first half. Riley Fetterer put the Scots up 7-0 with a 30-yard pass to Nathan Graham to cap a 6-play, 78-yard drive.
Fetterer picked up another touchdown pass on the next drive as he found Jake Uryasz for a 9-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead. Running back Devin Lawrence, returning from injury, put Monmouth up 21-0 with a 34-yard touchdown run at the end of the first quarter.
The Scots’ offense kept going in the second quarter with two more scores. Fetterer hit Uryasz for a 30-yard touchdown on the first dive of the quarter. Right before halftime, Fetterer got the ball to Graham on a short pass and the senior did the rest, going 25 yards to the end zone for a 35-0 lead.
Neither team scored again until the fourth quarter. Freshman running back Josh Bozzaco found the end zone for the first time in his Monmouth career with a 7-yard score with 7:17 to play.
The Scots’ defense was led by senior Korbyn Personett who had a career-high four sacks to go with five tackles for a loss and a forced fumble. Tevin Baker added 1.5 sacks while both Devin Graham and Jalen Williams had interceptions.
Fetterer finished 16-of-26 for 246 yards and four touchdowns while also throwing two interceptions. Freshman Ashton Summers made his debut going 1-for-2 for six yards. Graham had 79 yards on three catches while Uryasz also caught three passes, going for 45 yards.

Knox falls at UChicago
CHICAGO — The Knox College football team lost 45-10 on Saturday against the University of Chicago Maroons.
The loss is the third straight for the Prairie Fire and is also their first defeat away from home this season. The 35-point spread is the closest of the season so far for Chicago in Midwest Conference play. Knox also managed 122 rushing yards, the most the Maroons have given up all season and the first time they have given up over 100 yards rushing this year.
The Fire fell into an early hole they could not recover from, as they punted on their first two drives, only to let the Maroons march down the field for touchdowns on their own first two drives. Preston Lade finished off the next Knox drive with a 29-yard field goal, but a quick 68-yard touchdown drive for the Maroons put the Fire in a significant hole midway through the second quarter.
Knox’s passing attack had no momentum to speak of, gaining only three yards total on the day. The Fire faced a 28-3 deficit at the half.
The Maroons scored another touchdown on their opening drive of the second half, seemingly putting Knox out of the game for good. After trading punts, the Fire threw an interception on their own 25-yard line, appearing to set up Chicago for another score. Two plays later, however, Ean Rau picked the ball off, returning it 92 yards and scoring Knox’s only touchdown of the day. The Maroons scored 10 more points while the Fire were unable to produce much more offensively.
Hunter Anderson led the ground attack for Knox with 54 yards on 10 attempts. He also added a reception for three yards.
Rau picked up 10 total tackles to go along with his 92-yard interception return for a TD. Kendall Ballman added nine total tackles. The Fire’s Caleb Spinks racked up seven tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss.
