Cipla reports 32 pc rise in net profit to Rs 1,056 cr in Q3
Drug major Cipla on Monday reported a 32 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 1,056 crore for the December quarter, on the back of robust sales across geographies.The Mumbai-based company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 801 crore in the year-ago period, Cipla Ltd said in a statement.Total revenue from operations in the third quarter of the current fiscal rose to Rs 6,604 crore as compared with Rs 5,810 crore in the year-ago period.Cipla MD and Global CEO Umang Vohra said the company’s topline growth for the quarter was 14 per cent year-on-year.

Republic Day: PM Modi to meet tableau artists and NCC cadets
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet the tableau artists along with the NCC cadets at his official 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence here on January 24, officials said on Monday. Addressing a press conference here, Defence PRO Manoj Roorkiwal said that a programme would be organised at the prime minister’s residence on January 24 where he will interact with the tableau artists who work behind the curtains as well as the NCC cadets who will participate in the Republic Day Parade. “This yr’s Republic Day programme will probably be women-centric and the motto is ‘Viksit Bharat’. Delhi’s final electoral roll published with 1.47 cr voters; significant rise in youngsters, women
The final electoral roll of Delhi published on Monday ahead of the Lok Sabha polls showed a significant 85 per cent rise in the number of young voters in the 18 to 19 years age group as well as improved registration of the women voters. As per the Special Summary Revision – 2024 completed with publication of the final electoral roll, the total number of electors (voters) stood at 1,47,18,119, including 79,86,572 males, 67,30,371 females and 1,176 third gender electors, stated a statement from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Delhi. With special efforts made during the special summary revision exercise (qualifying date January 1, 2024), the gender ratio of the electors has improved by 5 points- from 838 to 843, demonstrating significant progress in efforts towards intensification of electoral inclusion of women, said CEO, Delhi, P Krishnamurthy. “The ultimate electoral roll printed immediately exhibits a major enhance within the variety of younger electors in Delhi, demonstrating the dedication of younger electors in direction of the electoral course of,” mentioned Krishnamurthy.

Dozens buried, eight killed in southwest China landslide
Dozens of people were buried and eight confirmed killed when a landslide struck a remote and mountainous part of southwestern China on Monday. The pre-dawn landslide buried 18 homes and sparked the evacuation of more than 200 people when it struck in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan province, state media said. Eight people are confirmed dead and rescuers have extracted four, according to a report by state broadcaster CCTV at around 5:30 pm (0930 GMT), though the condition of the four was not immediately clear. Two hundred rescue workers have been dispatched as well as dozens of fire engines and other equipment, CCTV said.

Increase import duty on paper, paperboards to 25 pc in budget: IPMA
Domestic paper and paperboard manufacturers have demanded a hike in import duty to 25 per cent on paper products and the imposition of a quality control order in the upcoming Budget to discourage cheap inward shipments. The Indian Paper Manufacturers Association (IPMA), in a statement on Monday, said that in its pre-budget submissions to the government, it has urged for increasing the basic customs duty on the import of paper and paperboard from 10 per cent to 25 per cent as India’s WTO Bound rate is 40 per cent on these products. The association has also asked for the issuance of quality control orders (QCOs) for different grades of paper to ensure the supply of quality products to Indian consumers and check the import of sub-standard products into the country. IPMA President Pawan Agarwal urged the government to keep paper and paperboard on the negative list while reviewing the existing FTAs (ASEAN, South Korea and Japan) and formulating new ones. He mentioned that any increase in customs duty will not impact the duty-free imports coming into the country under the FTAs.

Manipur CM, 10 parties discuss crisis
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said he has chaired a meeting with representatives of 10 political parties to address the current situation in the ethnic violence-hit state. He also said “constructive discussions” were held during the meeting at the CM secretariat on Sunday. Manipur has been rocked by ethnic violence since May last year and over 180 people were killed. India records 203 fresh Covid cases, two deaths in 24 hours
India reported a single-day rise of 203 Covid cases while the active caseload was recorded at 2,034, the Union Health Ministry said today. Two deaths — one each in Kerala and Maharashtra — have been reported in 24 hours, according to the data updated at 8 am. The number of daily cases had dropped to double-digits till December 5 but began to rise after the emergence of a new variant and cold conditions. A single-day rise of 841 fresh infections — 0.2 per cent of the peak cases reported in May 2021 — were recorded on December 31, official sources have said. Of the total active cases, a large majority of around 92 per cent are recovering in home isolation.
