In recent years, haven’t we grown quite privy to Gujarati culture? Many popular TV soap operas and movies have tried to encapsulate the rich and vibrant culture, art, folklores and gastronomy of Gujarat. Foods like dhokla, fafda, jalebi have become global sensation, but the list of culinary marvels does not end here. If you really want the taste of Gujarat, you have to be on the streets to witness the food options there. One such treat from Ahmedabad is the Ghugra sandwich – much like Bombay toasty, this simple sandwich made with zingy chutney, butter and different kinds of vegetables is one of the crown jewels of Ahmedabad’s street food fare.

Mumbai-based food blogger Alpa Modi tried to recreate the famed sandwich at home and the results were all things desi and delicious. The toasted sandwich recipe was posted on the YouTube channel, ‘Something’s Cooking With Alpa’ and there are number of reasons why you should try it at home today. One, it is ridiculously easy to put together. Secondly, it is made with easily available ingredients like coriander, chillies, ginger and peas.
