Lately, we have seen executives and others who work in the Disney entertainment space put on blast in the news cycle.

We have seen ABC News employee Kirstyn Crawford accused former Good Morning America executive Michael Corn of sexual assault, as well as former ABC president Ben Sherwood accused of inappropriate behavior in the workplace. When it comes to Marvel, there has been a lot of drama surrounding Scarlett Johansson’s legal battle with Disney over the Black Widow release.

Most recently, Marvel Entertainment filed a suit in response to copyright termination notices, which were meant to return the rights to Marvel’s characters to the authors who created them. If granted, Marvel could still use the characters, such as Black Widow, Spider-Man, and more, but would need to share profits.

Now, Marvel Entertainment is back in the hot seat as billionaire Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter has been accused of breaking the law. Perlmutter is one of three who have been accused of using “their connection to the former president’s private golf club to shape veterans’ policies for their own benefit,” according to CNBC. 

It was reported that Perlmutter did not “comply” with a federal transparency law. During this time, he was “secretly influencing the Department of Veterans Affairs during the Trump administration.” Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., and Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Mark Takano, D-Calif stated that the three men “violated the law and sought to exert improper influence over government officials to further their own personal interests.”

It seems that the three men were planning on creating a financially lucrative plan that would monetize veterans’ medical records. More documents are said to be released today regarding the matter. Ike Perlmutter is the current chairman and CEO of Marvel Entertainment.

Marvel Entertainment is not to be confused with Marvel Studios, which is under the leadership of President Kevin Feige. Previous Marvel films that were shot before 2008’s Iron Man were not part of Feige’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Entertainment as a whole, including Marvel Studios, is wholly owned by The Walt Disney Company.
