Summer athletic activities have been postponed at Menomonee Falls High School after families reported possible coronavirus cases among student-athletes, according to a letter the school district sent to parents Sunday.

“This past week, several families notified SDMF of possible positive cases among student athletes,” officials said in the letter. “SDMF district nurse contacted the Waukesha County Health Department to determine next steps.”

Sports teams affected by the postponement include football, dance, cheer, soccer, softball, basketball and volleyball. Director of Pupil Services Stacy Klemm said activities will be postponed for two weeks; the fall sports schedule has not been adjusted.

A Saturday letter mentioned coronavirus diagnoses among football conditioning program attendees, but Klemm said the reports of possible cases did not originate within football or any other school-related activities.

The Sunday letter states the decision was made because of an increase in positive cases throughout Waukesha County and Menomonee Falls.

Waukesha County had 717 active cases as of Sunday. On July 17, 84 confirmed cases were reported, the county’s highest daily total yet, according to Waukesha County Public Health data.

“Waukesha County is actively working to quickly identify, notify, and test any children, staff, or visitors who may have come into contact with individuals who tested positive and may be at risk of getting sick,” the district said in the letter.
