The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday that it will play no more sports in 2020.

Citing the NCAA Division III Administrative Committee’s recent recommendation to forego competitions through the fall term, the MIAC announced it will not play until January.

Previously, the conference announced it would move football, volleyball soccer and cross country to the spring seasons, and Monday’s announcement means the same for golf and tennis. Traditional fall sports programs  still will be allowed to practice this fall.

Basketball, hockey, indoor track and field and swimming and diving still are set to be played this winter, with the starts of those seasons merely pushed back a couple of months. The conference said the winter sports programs already have begun work on condensing

The MIAC said the delay in competition will give schools, staff and students more time to adjust to new safety protocols and allow for further advancements in testing and treatments, “which remain a key factor for the return of athletics across the nation.”
