ADFAC will host “The Starry Night,” its 9th annual Bill Wilcox Bow Tie Event on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Doubletree Hotel in Oak Ridge. In addition to celebrating this year’s awardee, Jim Dodson, the fundraising event will also host an entertaining concert by local band, The Missing Goats.
This self described “pub band” features members Tom Beehan, Mary Tuskan and Steve Reddick, as well as guest player, Gary Coleman with a repertoire including Irish, Scottish, Bluegrass and Appalachian songs. Band members have a love for Ireland so much so that they have travelled to Ireland for concerts (and a little travel fun along the way) and performed at many local St. Patrick’s Day activities.
The band has performed since February 2018 at a variety of local venues, churches, festivals and nonprofit fundraising events and even hosted several virtual and outdoor concerts during the pandemic, including the 2020 ADFAC Bow Tie Drive By.
“We are so pleased The Missing Goats have joined us again for a repeat performance for the Bow Tie event,” said Wendie Aurin, ADFAC’s Bow Tie chair. “Their love of music and community make them a perfect fit for our event and it’s extra special as Jim Dodson is a big fan of this band!”
The cocktail-attire event will include appetizers, dinner, cash bar and will feature emcee Elaine Graham, “buy it now” auction items, live auction items and more. Tickets and additional details are available at www.adfac.org or by visiting http://tinyurl.com/BowTie2021, by emailing bowtie@adfac.org or calling (865) 425-0256 ext. 107.
ADFAC’s top priority is the safety and security of the entire ADFAC family — our supporters, volunteers, staff, and clients. All guests attending must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination in one of two ways:
- Text or email a photo of your vaccination card to ADFAC Development Director Jamie LaRose at (865) 385-8771 or jamie@adfac.org (photos and any identifying information will be kept confidential, and records will be deleted after the event); or,
- Bring your vaccination card (or photo of your card on your phone) to the event. ADFAC staff and/or volunteers will verify your vaccination status at check-in.
Additionally, guests are strongly encouraged to wear masks when not eating or drinking.
This year’s event is graciously presented by McLinc and sponsored by ORUD, Estate Sale Professionals, TNBank, Wendie Aurin – Realty Executive Associates, Fox Willis Burnette PLLC, Dr. Bill & Carroll Welch, The Wilcox Family, and all the previous Bow Tie recipients. With additional essential support provided by Leidos, BBB TV, DoubleTree, and Trish Polfus.
Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties (ADFAC) began in the mid 1980s as a local ecumenical effort to provide assistance to impoverished families. As the broad needs of the low-income community became evident, the faith-based collaborative moved to become a 501(c)(3) public charity in January, 1987. Over the years, ADFAC has honored its roots by developing a broad variety of programs designed to meet unfilled needs in the community and currently answers more than 6,000 requests for assistance each year.
Annie Cacheiro is the executive director of Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties.
