NEW YORK — Honda Motor’s American arm is recalling greater than 2.5 million autos within the U.S. resulting from a gasoline pump defect that may enhance dangers of engine failure or stalling whereas driving.

According to paperwork printed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the gasoline pump impeller used for in 2017-2020 Acura and Honda autos was improperly molded. This ends in low-density impellers, which “can deform and interfere with the fuel pump body” over time, regulators stated, resulting in an inoperative gasoline pump.

If the gasoline pump module does not work, the automobile’s engine might not begin or can stall whereas driving, the NHTSA stated, rising crash and damage dangers. Honda says it has not obtained any crash or damage experiences associated to this recall thus far.

The automaker stated Thursday that it’ll change gasoline pumps for all autos impacted by the recall without charge in separate phases, with the primary batch of proprietor notification letters going out in February.
