He later paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Rome. He also interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, who turned up in large numbers at the event.

Later in the evening PM Modi held bilateral talks with Italian PM Mario Draghi. He was also accorded a guard of honour.
