India’s National Investigation Agency carried out multiple raids across the Kashmir valley, detaining over 500 people after civilian deaths in the area continued to rise.

Searches were conducted in over 16 locations, including the Kulgam and Baramulla districts.

The fresh spate of searches are part of a probe into suspected terror organisations, one of which has been identified as ‘The Resistance Front’ – reportedly an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba – as well as one publication reportedly affiliated with the ISIS.

During these searches, the NIA has apprehended 570 people – including former terrorists – in an attempt to get to the bottom of the recent attacks.

Two TRF operatives, Tawseef Ahmed Wani from Baramulla in North Kashmir and Faiz Ahmed Khan from Wampora in Anantnag of South Kashmir, were among the arrested.

40 teachers from across the region have also been roped in by the agency, including the principal and a teacher at Eidgah Boys Higher Secondary School, all in a bid to find information.

During the searches, many digital devices, including mobiles, pen drives, data storage devices and other incriminating materials were recovered, according to an NIA spokesperson.
