Parents say foundation’s mission is to help fund youth sports participation

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The parents of a 14-year-old Bend High School incoming freshman who died following an ATV rollover crash on the Fourth of July have started a sports foundation in honor of their son.

Donovan Williams was a student at High Desert Middle School and was headed into his freshman year at Bend High School.

His mother, Becky Williams, said her son was a star athlete who had just started football practice and conditioning with the Lava Bears. He also sang with the High Desert Middle School Jazz Band.

The website for the new foundation, called Long Live Dono, said the mission is to help fund sports participation area youth who would not be able to pay and play otherwise.

On the Fourth of July, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Williams was one of four boys ages 13 to 15 riding ATVs on public land west of Deer Lane and Fremont Road near Alfalfa.

After his passing, an update to a GoFundMe page set up for the Williams family by a friend, Aria Brooks, said his organs were donated to six people.

Reporter Rhea Panela is speaking with Becky Williams to learn more about the foundation and her son. Her reports begin on NewsChannel 21 Fox @ 4.
