NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Nine railcars from a Norfolk Southern freight practice derailed in Pennsylvania, with no hazardous chemical substances on board and no reported accidents, fireplace division and firm officers stated.

The derailment occurred late Wednesday outdoors of New Castle, the corporate stated in a press release.

“Our crews responded immediately and are actively working at the site,” the assertion stated.

The New Castle Fire Department stated that at the very least a few of the automobiles that derailed contained paraffin wax, which is used to make candles, and soybeans.

New Castle is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northwest of Pittsburgh close to the Pennsylvania-Ohio state line.

The derailment comes amid heightened consideration to rail security nationwide after a fiery derailment in February of Norfolk Southern railcars in East Palestine, Ohio. Half of the city’s 5,000 residents had been evacuated as emergency responders burned off chemical substances to stop an uncontrolled explosion.

The firm has renewed a promise to create a fund for residents close to the location of that wreck to cowl any decline in residence values for the reason that derailment.
