RETIRED, REDUX: Almost 60 years ago, Cruz Flores broke the New Mexico scoring record for football and, in 1961, his number 22 was retired. But, in 1995, Flores’ nephew David Salas asked to wear the jersey again and Flores agreed, providing the number was then re-retired when Salas was done. Well, a generation of Dons had the chance to wear the number, and that was finally done recently in a small ceremony.

FAILING: In a survey of 215 coaches across the state, representing 86 schools and 8,703 students, 36% of student-athletes had at least one F grade this semester and would be ineligible to play, according to numbers released by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association. Broken down by gender, 2,434 male athletes of the 5,746 represented, or 42%, were failing and 701 of 2,942 females, or 24%, had an F.

TO SKI OR NOT: A week and a half after Ski Santa Fe began selling its OnePass ski passes, it stopped. “We are working hard with our partners at the State and at Ski New Mexico to provide a safe and fun winter experience, but some questions remain as to what winter will look like,” according to a news release from Ben and Benny Abruzzo, Ski Santa Fe owners.
