A “dearly loved” former pub landlord died immediately after being electrocuted whereas on vacation in India, his household have stated.

Ivan Brown, who ran pubs throughout Norwich, fell and grabbed a dwell electrical wire whereas taking an image within the city of Dalhousie on Sunday.

His daughter Natalie Brown stated his demise would go away “a massive hole in everyone’s life”.

The household has been advised police are investigating why the wire was dwell.

Mr Brown, 71, was six weeks into an eight-week journey along with his buddy David Linder on the time.

The pair had been sending photographs and tales again to household and mates within the UK documenting the “fantastic time” they have been having, Ms Brown stated.

She advised the BBC: “He was very into photography and he was taking a photo of the Himalayas and as he stepped backwards we think he fell, he grabbed a live wire beside him which shouldn’t have been live.

“We’ve had info from police and the embassy of some incidents at this place.”

The father-of-three had been landlord of pubs including The Murderers, The Eagle and The Jubilee in Norwich. He and Mr Linder became friends when Mr Brown sold him The Eagle.

Ms Brown stated: “He was a really well-known character round Norwich and cherished my many.

“He helped many people in so many ways. It’s a great loss to the whole of Norwich and as a family we are all distraught and devastated.

“And this could by no means have occurred; he needs to be coming dwelling to us. We cherished him dearly”.

She stated travelling was a “large ardour” of Mr Brown’s, and that he loved “something adventurous”.

He also loved fishing and golf, his family said.

His wife Jackie, Ms Brown and her siblings Doug and Danielle, have been inundated with hundreds of phone calls, visitors and messages from the local community and across the world, including South Africa, where the couple had a home.

“He was cherished by everybody. He’s left an enormous gap in everybody’s life; we’ve not stopped having folks come round,” Ms Brown stated.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the household of a British man who has died in India and are involved with the native authorities.”

Local police have also been contacted for comment.
