Kevin Walters has reportedly won the race to be Brisbane’s new coach.
The Daily Telegraph on Sunday broke the news Walters will be offered the job on Monday and the club is likely to announce it officially on Wednesday.
Walters and Paul Green were both interviewed last week and put forth their case to coach the famous Red Hill club.
Walters is a Broncos legend and previously was an assistant coach under Wayne Bennett, when he helped them to the 2015 grand final.

The Telegraph reports influential people at the Broncos only agreed to give Walters the job if they can also hire an experienced supervisor above him to oversee operations.
Craig Bellamy is being poached by Brisbane who want him to join the club when he finishes coaching the Storm at the end of next season.

Bellamy has indicated he wants to move home to Queensland and the Broncos want him in a role above Walters.
Walters is set to coach Queensland in the State of Origin series in November and he’s also signed to do it next year, but it’s understood Queensland Rugby League have given him their blessing to coach Brisbane.

Reports say Bellamy is as good as signed with Brisbane for 2022 but the coach took exception to being asked about it after the game on Sunday.
I responded the other day that I’m not making any decision and I ain’t going to be talking about it until after the finals but I can tell you right here right now I haven’t agreed to nothing anywhere,” Bellamy said after the Storm’s 30-22 loss to the Dragons.
Queensland power brokers will not stand in the way of Walters taking the Broncos position, but he will not be able to hold the Maroons role and the Brisbane job at the same time.
“I’m confident Kevin will be announced as the Broncos coach because I believe he is the best man for the job,” QRL chairman Bruce Hatcher told The Courier Mail.
“It’s always been my view that Kevin should coach the Broncos.
“Given the parlous state of the culture at the Broncos, Kevin is the man to turn that club around.
“It’s my understanding the Broncos will make an announcement midweek.
“We have a big Origin series coming up, but the reality is we don’t want to stand in the way of Kevin because he should have been appointed Broncos coach two years ago.”
Broncos chairman Karl Morris confirmed a decision on Brisbane’s next coach is expected shortly.
“We have completed the interviews with Paul and Kevin – there won’t be a second round of interviews,” Morris said.
“The board will now consider the merits of both candidates. Everyone knows it’s a two-horse race and we will make a decision shortly.
“Both men interviewed very well so whichever way we go, we will be very happy with our choice.”
However the QRL hope to reach a reasonable outcome on Walters future as Maroons coach if he can’t continue in the role, with Wayne Bennett and Green potential options to replace him for the 2020 series.
“Kevin is contracted with us until the end of 2021 and there are a few permutations we have discussed,” Hatcher said.
“If we are given an ultimatum by the Broncos that Kevin can’t have anything to do with Origin this year, then it creates some real issues.
“We’ve heard nothing from Brisbane at this stage, but we’re as prepared as we can be in the event that Kevin is appointed Broncos coach.”
