The news that the football world has expected for a couple days now is official. Gareth Bale will join Tottenham Hotspur on a season long loan. It’s expected that Real Madrid and Tottenham will split the Welshman’s lucrative wages. Tottenham will also have the opportunity to extend the loan for another year at the end of the current season.
And the other move between both clubs saw Sergio Reguilon seal a transfer for about €30 million. It is a permanent transfer, but Real Madrid will retain a €45 million buy-back clause on Reguilon for two years, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Gareth Bale joined the club in 2013, leaving a trophy laden legacy. He was instrumental in all four of the UEFA Champions League finals and scored historic goals for the club. The last few years have been draining for Gareth, the club, fans, and media alike but a move to Tottenham may be able to kickstart his career.
In two years time, Marcelo’s contract expires, more will be known about the true level of Miguel Gutierrez, and Reguilon will have two premiership seasons under his belt. A return to his boyhood club may not be off the table if all the factors align. We will watch his development with eager anticipation.
Best of luck to Tottenham’s newest recruits!
