OKEMOS, Mich. (WLNS) — Nearly 100 individuals gathered at Okemos High School on Saturday for a particular occasion celebrating Indian tradition.

The Indian Cultural Society of Lansing’s annual occasion, generally known as MILAP, was final held in 2019 after being canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The neighborhood turned out to indicate its help at Saturday’s occasion at Okemos High School.

“MILAP is our annual cultural heritage show,” mentioned Sandeep Sood, President of the Indian Cultural Society.

The celebration included vibrant, colourful decorations and vibrant Indian music that crammed the varsity’s auditorium.

“We have numerous musicians, dancers … from the young at heart, to older individuals … singing patriotic songs, music songs, movie songs, followed by a cultural dinner,” Sood mentioned.

Sood mentioned the Indian Cultural Society began this system greater than 20 years in the past as a solution to take pleasure in and share Indian heritage with the mid-Michigan neighborhood.

“Kind of share back with the community, what we do, what we feel. Some music, things that they may have never heard before, seen. And just get a sense of who we are … and just have some fun,” Sood mentioned.

And though the present was in mid-Michigan, the passion from performers transported viewers members to the guts of India.

“The vibrant colors, the place, whether the outside is dreary or dark, it just helps lighten the mood for everyone,” Sood mentioned.
