The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a late night shooting at Cancun’s Sports Bar and Grill on West Tennessee Street.

Officers responded to the business after midnight early Sunday, later roping off the front exterior and a side parking lot with crime scene tape.

Investigators focused on an area just outside the front door and around the corner of the building, where several evidence markers were placed on the ground.

Lizzy Kelley, a spokeswoman for the city and TPD, confirmed that one person was shot. The victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

She said she couldn’t comment on whether TPD made any arrests in the shooting.

“Open and active investigation, so I can’t confirm at this time,” she said.

Officers at the scene also said they couldn’t comment. One spoke briefly to someone who pulled into the parking lot to pick another person up.

“We had quite a large incident happen here,” the officer said.

Cancun’s, normally open until 2 a.m. weekend nights, is located along a general stretch of West Tennessee known for sometimes unruly after-hours crowds.

So far this year, there have been at least 42 shootings in Tallahassee and Leon County, according to a Democrat analysis. Fifteen people have been killed and 30 injured.
