PANTHERS RAKE PLACES RAIDERS STAR’S MOVE TO TIGERS IN HOLDING PATTERN

The Tigers move to recruit Raiders’ hooker Josh Hodgson has been put on hold to allow new director of football Tim Sheens to look over the roster.

The Tigers announced last week that football boss Adam Hartigan would leave the club effective immediately, while at the same time Sheens will begin his new role at Concord.

One of Sheens’ responsibilities will be to oversee the Tigers’ salary cap situation, which has caused a delay in all current contract negotiations, including Hodgson’s.

The Tigers are set to unveil their new-look football department in the coming days.

The Canberra Times reported that Panthers hooker Api Koroisau is also of interest to the Tigers.

Like Hodgson, Koroisau is also contracted until the end of next season, and could reunite with Michael Maguire following their time together at the Rabbitohs.

Hodgson is contracted to the Raiders until the end of 2022 but has been granted permission to negotiate with rivals if he can secure his future elsewhere.

The Tigers offered Hodgson a two-year deal, but the sticking point is how much of Hodgson’s $800,000 deal for 2022 that the Raiders will be willing to chip in.

Canberra recruitment manager Peter Mulholland revealed all parties are facing a delay in talks given the new football department changes at the Tigers.

“Tim Sheens just wants to get his head across the whole thing so it’s probably on a little bit of a time delay at the moment until he gets his head around their salary cap situation, and he’s got to meet with Maguire over Zoom,” Mulholland told The Canberra Times.

“So it’s just a little bit of a holding pattern.”

The now departed Hartigan was a key player in the talks between the Tigers and the Raiders for Hartigan’s signature.

The new expansion team the Dolphins could also play a role in speeding up discussions between the Tigers and either Hodgson or Koroisau as of November 1.
