TOWANDA, Pa. (WBNG) — The Pennsylvania House of Representatives will vote on whether to override Governor Tom Wolf’s veto of House Bill 2787, next week.

Yesterday, Governor Wolf announced he vetoed House Bill 2787.

This bill allows Pennsylvania school districts to decided on the number of spectators allowed at sporting events.

Tina Pickett, a Pennsylvania State Representative, said she has received calls from family members about who should make the decision to limit spectators.

“I heard loud and clear from folks,” Pickett says. “This is what they want. They want the local school district to be able to determine what’s a safe number to be a spectator in those sports.”

Local school districts already have the say if they want to participate in sports or not.

Currently, only 250 spectators are allowed for outside events and 25 for inside events.

Governor Wolf said the bill restricts state and local official’s ability to respond if there is an outbreak of COVID-19 cases.

Governor Wolf also called the bill unnecessary and said the legislature should be focused on bills that protect the health and safety of students in schools.
