The Digital Health Mission announced by the Prime Minister during the Independence Day Speech envisages every Indian with a unique health identification that links to each person’s medical records right from birth. The purpose is to give medical practitioners access to health records and is also seen as a step towards universal health care. Adoption of the system is voluntary and citizens have to link their health identification to their Aadhaar numbers only if availing of Government services.
