Police investigate alleged Gold Coast pub incident involving Bailey Smith

Gold Coast police are investigating a formal complaint made over an alleged incident involving AFL superstar Bailey Smith.

Foxsports.com.au understands a formal complaint was made last week by a 22-year-old man, who alleges he was shoved by Smith outside a popular nightspot in Gold Coast‘s south.

Smith had been staying on the Gold Coast after leaving Perth, where his Western Bulldogs were defeated in the AFL grand final.

The alleged incident occurred just after midnight on October 4 outside the Burleigh Pavilion, foxsports.com.au understands.

Police have not spoken with Smith regarding the matter.

“Police have received a complaint in relation to an (incident involving) a 22-year-old man at Goodwin Terrace around 12.10am on Monday October 4, 2021,” a police statement said.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

It’s understood the 22-year-old man who made the complaint attended hospital for treatment following the alleged incident.

The AFL and Bulldogs have confirmed to foxsports.com.au they are aware of the complaint.

“The AFL has been advised by the Western Bulldogs of an incident involving a player on October 4,” an AFL spokesperson said. “On the basis of the information we currently have there will be no further action at this stage.”

The Bulldogs said: “The Western Bulldogs are aware of an incident which occurred in Burleigh Heads in Queensland on 4 October, where a small group of its players were present.

“The Club has conducted its own investigation and is satisfied that no further action is required at this point in time.”
