ROME (AP) — Pope Francis has been discharged from the Rome hospital the place he had belly surgical procedure 9 days earlier to restore a hernia and take away painful scarring.

Francis, 86, left in a wheelchair, smiling and waving and saying “thanks” to a crowd of well-wishers, then stood up so he might get into the small Vatican automobile awaiting him.
