The postseason for a high school fall sports season that almost wasn’t resumes this week as girls tennis gets started along with Division I golf for both boys and girls. Golfers in boys Divisions II and III and girls Division II head to the next level of play — district tournaments — this week.

Four Mahoning Valley girls tennis players have earned seeds in Division I sectional tournaments.

The Howland duo of Francesca Elisco and Kate Li are the top-seeded pair in doubles at the sectional at Solon Community Park. Action is scheduled Monday through Wednesday.

Canfield’s Anna Kan (second) and Boardman’s Ava Valko (third) are seeded in singles in the sectional at Jackson Park in Canton. Competition there begins Tuesday and is also scheduled Thursday and Saturday. Fitch also will compete in that sectional.

The top four finishers in both singles and doubles at both sectionals qualify for the district tournament at Springside Racquet & Fitness Club in Akron.

Also beginning Monday is the Division II sectional at Boardman Tennis Complex, where a slew oif area teams will be competing. They include Poland, Ursuline, Cardinal Mooney, Kennedy, Lakeview, Struthers, West Branch, Liberty, East Palestine, Lordstown, McDonald and Salem.

Ursuline has top-seeded Anna Morgione in the singles field and top-seeded Lynn Chahine and Ella Kobak in doubles. In addition, Van Hoang and Paityn Philibin are seeded fourth for the Irish on the doubles courts.

Also seeded at Boardman are Struthers’ Daniella Mendel (third) and Mooney’s Marissa Landers (fourth) in singles, and Poland’s Caitie Palusak and Julia Eich (third) in doubles. The sectional concludes Saturday.

Boys and girls Division I golf teams begin their postseason quests with sectionals on Monday and Tuesday.

Fitch, Harding, Howland and Niles will compete in the boys sectional at Windmill Lakes in Ravenna on Monday. Competing at Tannenhauf in Alliance on Tuesday are Boardman and Canfield. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team at both sectionals will advance to the district tournament.

In the girls sectional at Pine Lakes in Hubbard, Boardman, Canfield, Fitch, Niles and West Branch will be competing. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the district tournament.

Boys and girls golf began last week with sectional tournaments in Divisions II and III.

Poland and West Branch earned Division II district berths on the boys side and will be joined Tuesday at Windmill Lakes by area individual qualifiers Chaz Ekoniak of Struthers, Turner Rocco of Mooney and Jake Britton of Garfield. At district, the top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the state tournament.

Competing in the girls’ Division II district Tuesday at Stable Creek in Hartville will be Poland, East Palestine, Columbiana and Garfield. Individual qualifiers include Salem’s Kelly Hutton, Mooney’s Alyssa Rapp, Crestview’s Emily Hill, Kennedy’s Samantha Calderone, Chalker’s Bella Woods and Bristol’s Katie Webb. The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the state tournament.

The Division III boys district tournament is Thursday at Tannenhauf in Alliance, where Pymatuning Valley, Mineral Ridge and McDonald will be competing as teams. Competing as individual qualifiers are Brandon Gibson of Newton Falls and Bryce Van Horn of Kennedy. The top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the state tournament.
