NEW DELHI :
The health of former President Pranab Mukherjee continued to be critical, but stable, the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital said. “Pranab Mukherjee’s health condition continues to remain critical. Presently he is haemodynamically stable and on ventilator,” the hospital said in the medical bulletin issued on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the hospital said he had undergone a lifesaving emergency surgery for a brain clot on 10 August; subsequently his health status had worsened, and he remained on ventilator support.

On Monday, defence minister Rajnath Singh had visited the hospital to enquire about his health. Doctors said in normal conditions, brain surgery for removal of a clot would not be a concern, but considering his covid-19-positive status and advanced age, it could be a cause for worry.

Mukherjee, 84, had served as the 13th president of India between 2012 and 2017. Besides, he held key ministries in the governments led by former prime ministers Indira Gandhi, P.V. Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh.
