Former Indian president Pranab Mukherjee’s health continues to remain critical and he is still on ventilator support at the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital in Delhi.

In the latest health update, the hospital added that Mukjherjee’s condition is haemodynamically stable. “Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s health condition continues to remain critical. Presently he is haemodynamically stable and on ventilator,” the hospital said.

Mukherjee, 84, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition on Monday and underwent a brain surgery. He also tested positive for coronavirus.

On Tuesday, the hospital said Mukherjee’s health worsened further after the surgery and added that he remains critical. He had to undergo the surgery after a large blood clot had developed in his brain.

It was learnt that the former president accidentally slipped in his bathroom and fell, resulting in the blood clot.

“Shri Pranab Mukherjee’s health condition continues to remain critical at Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi Cantonment. The former president, who underwent lifesaving emergency surgery for brain clot on 10 August 2020, has not shown any improvement and his health status has worsened. He remains on ventilatory support,” the hospital said on Tuesday evening.

Mukherjee’s health is being monitored round the clock by a multidisciplinary disciplinary team of doctors.

Earlier on Monday, Mukherjee announced on Twitter that he had tested positive for coronavirus and urged people who had come in contact with him to self-isolate themselves and get tested for Covid-19.

Soon after he was hospitalised, wishes for his early recovery poured in from various quarters; a number of leaders also sent their wishes on Twitter. In his native village back in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, people have organised special prayers for his speedy recovery.
