Prince’s music is changing into a stage musical — finally.

Producer Orin Wolf introduced Monday that he’s creating a stage model of Purple Rain — the 1984, vaguely autobiographical movie that made Prince a megastar and gained him an Oscar for Best Original Song Score. In the movie model, Prince starred as The Kid, an rising musician on the Minneapolis rock scene.

Wolf’s credit embrace the Tony Award-winning The Band’s Visit — one other movie-turned-musical. He has already enlisted playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins to jot down the brand new musical’s ebook; Jacobs-Jenkins is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for his performs Gloria and Everybody. Also on board is director Lileana Blain-Cruz, a Tony Award nominee for The Skin of Our Teeth at Lincoln Center.

Prince died in 2016 with no will. His property and the rights to his music had been solely settled in 2022.
