A proposed $11 million improvement in Pittsburgh’s Lower Hill District would come with a brand new leisure venue, a six-story parking storage, retail house and a public security station on the previous Civic Arena website.

Pittsburgh Arena Real Estate Redevelopment, the event arm of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and several other companions offered plans for the event to the Planning Commission final week.

“We remain optimistic about the opportunities we are creating in the Lower Hill District,” mentioned Chris Buccini, co-president of Buccini/Pollin Group, the lead developer for the challenge.

Plans embrace a 95,000-square-foot leisure venue and a parking storage that would accommodate about 910 automobiles, plus bicycles.

The leisure venue, which is being constructed in partnership with Live Nation and others, would seat 4,500 individuals, Buccini mentioned.

Planning Commission Chair Christine Mondor mentioned she appreciated the general public security station being integrated into plans for the parking storage. “It’s great that we’re putting this public safety use there,” Mondor mentioned, including that she’d prefer to see that portion of the event have extra of a “presence” to welcome the general public.

The Planning Commission is predicted to vote on this proposed part of improvement on the previous Civic Arena website in January.

Elsewhere on the location, the brand new First National Bank Tower being built nearby is “fast underway,” Buccini mentioned.

Residential improvement is also on horizon, together with extra workplace house and retail, mentioned Tim McNulty, a spokesman for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Whether the event will embrace further parking “will be addressed at a later date,” McNulty mentioned.
