A US radio station that stated it will not play a listener’s Beyoncé request as a result of it was a “country music station”, is now enjoying Texas Hold ‘Em after coming in for criticism.
The fan who made the request accused KYKC-FM of “racism and discrimination”, posting the station’s response to his request on X (previously Twitter).
The put up was considered tens of millions of instances and shared by fan account @BeyLegion.
The Oklahoma station’s supervisor later referred to as Beyoncé an “icon”.
In it, the star – who has 32 Grammy awards and 88 nominations – sings about hoedowns and the accompanying music contains a banjo.
In an announcement emailed to the BBC’s US accomplice, CBS News, Roger Harris, a basic supervisor for South Central Oklahoma Radio Enterprises, which oversees KYKC, stated the track was now on the station’s nation music playlist, in addition to these of two different stations it oversees.
In his assertion, Mr Harris stated the station had not recognized that Beyoncé had launched two nation music songs, including that the response to the fan was a “standard reply” since KYKC doesn’t play her music.
Mr Harris added that the KYKC didn’t “even have the song” as it’s a “small station” which doesn’t “get serviced by the big labels like bigger stations do”.
He stated that after emails, calls and requests for the track flooded into the station, employees tracked it down, and after listening to it, agreed that it sounded “country”.
“We have nothing against Beyoncé… and we wish her the best in her foray into country music,” Mr Harris instructed CBS News.
“We actually wish that artists WOULDN’T get boxed in to certain genres or formats,” he stated.
“If it’s good music, it’s good music.”
Four hours after the preliminary grievance was made on X, the station itself put out its first put up in nearly 4 years, saying that it had had “lots of call coming in for Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ‘Em. It’s coming up in minutes”.
Despite solely being launched earlier this week, the track now has greater than 9 million performs on Spotify alone, and greater than 900,000 views on YouTube.
