Speaking at the India Today e-Mind Rocks 2020, Rana Daggubati opened up about what nepotism means to him.
Rana Daggubati is one of the speakers in the first-ever India Today e-Mind Rocks 2020. In a session titled ‘Reel hotshot: Rana Daggubati on marriage and movies,’ the Baahubali actor spoke about his fiancee Miheeka Bajaj, their wedding, animation talk show and most importantly, nepotism.
Rana said that nepotism comes from an Indian understanding of what a family is. He feels that people are privileged to be born in a family that is well-to-do in the film industry.
Elaborating more about nepotism, Rana Daggubati said, “Without the skill, you cannot last. Nepotism comes from an Indian understanding of what a family is. If you have a father who has worked very hard, he will provide it to his family in the means they understand, which is through capital and knowledge. So, we will part of the privileged people. I can’t take that away. That comes with greater responsibility. In lockdown, we have to run a company with over 600 employees paying them a salary. We have to make sure that the organisation is back to its feet soon. There’s always a responsibility attached to it. Also, there’s no option of giving up and you’ve got to keep getting better.”

In a 30-minute-long session, Rana Daggubati also shed light on the ongoing OTT vs theatre debate. He said, “Every time a new platform emerges, it’s a treasure trove of talents. OTT is a democratic space for an artist as it gives you the freedom to tell stories that you like. It gives flexibility to talents and filmmakers. It’s here to stay and we will get to see some interesting content. In terms of big-budget flicks, theatres will be their exhibit because it becomes an experience on the whole. So, we will get to see more big films in theatres and films that are drama-driven.”
On the work front, Rana Daggubati is waiting for the release of Kaadan (Aranya in Telugu and Haathi Mere Saathi in Hindi). Also, he is keen on resuming shooting of his Telugu film, Virata Parvam 1992, which has Sai Pallavi and Priyamani in pivotal roles.
