Ready or not, probably the greatest horror motion pictures of the previous decade is gearing up for a comeback.
Directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, with their producer accomplice Chad Villella — collectively often called filmmaking trio Radio Silence — have been engaged on a sequel to Ready or Not since 2019, they verify to Entertainment Weekly in a brand new interview. And if the celebrities align to really get it made, it will likely be, as they are saying, “an absolute f—ing banger.”
“It’s getting figured out,” Gillett tells EW after a chronic pause. “That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening. That movie is truly the love of our creative lives in a lot of ways.”
Ready or Not starred Samara Weaving as Grace, who, on her marriage ceremony night time, is hunted down by her new in-laws on their lavish property as a part of a twisted, ritualistic sport of hide-and-seek. Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin directed the movie, primarily based on a script from Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy.
At the tip of March, The InSneider first reported a Ready or Not sequel was in improvement, with Weaving returning and Adam Robitel directing. According to Gillett, the Radio Silence crew went to Vegas with Busick and Murphy shortly after the film’s launch in 2019 with the intention of crafting a sequel.
“I don’t think we knew after making it that there would be so much story left to tell,” Gillett says. “We’re so proud of what that first movie is, we’re so proud of what the sequel is,” he provides. “We’re just really excited, and fingers crossed that it gets made.”
“And with Searchlight and Samara, they’re not gonna let it down,” Bettinelli-Olpin provides.
The crew spoke with EW for his or her new film Abigail, which they are saying has quite a lot of Ready or Not vibes. Starring Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Alisha Weir, Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud, and Kevin Durand, the film (in theaters this weekend) follows a bunch of criminals who’re employed to kidnap a bit of woman with a love of ballet and maintain her in a single day in a secure home till the following morning when the ransom may be paid. Unfortunately for them, the woman seems to be a vampire who terrorizes them within the night time.
While we watch for the official phrase on Ready or Not, on the very least, in terms of all of the bride cosplay from years previous, Gillett says, “Don’t put it in storage just yet.”
