RUSSELL COUTY DELAYS SPORTS, FOREFITS OPENING FOOTBALL GAME AGAINST SMITHS STATION
The Alabama high school football season doesn’t start for another week, but the Smiths Station panthers are already 1-0.
What was going to be one of the more intriguing season opening matchups in Russell County versus Smiths Station is no more.
the Russell County Warriors have forfeited the game after missing an extended period of time due to coronavirus concerns. The school later announced that they are delaying fall sports until September 4th.
Panthers head coach Mike Glisson broke the news to his team that they weren’t going to play their first game.
“The kids took it hard. They work hard everyday and it’s hot,” said Glisson. “I could see the disappointment in their face, but I explained to them that this is something we’re going to have to deal with this year. Can’t get up and down with it, you just have to understand it’s going to happen.”
Smiths Station will take the field on August 28th when they take on Gardendale.
