Terming ‘clean energy’ collaboration central to US-India relationship, US Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry, welcomed India‘s huge push for renewable energy and called for a greater scale-up of technology to enable a ‘net-zero’ transition.

India’s environment minister Bhupender Yadav, on the other hand, emphasised on ‘inclusive’ and ‘sustainable’ action and achievements, keeping in mind the goals of poverty reduction and the principle that ‘no one should be left behind’.

Kerry and Yadav were addressing the ‘India Ideas Summit’ hosted by the US-India Business Council on ‘Building a Cleaner and More Sustainable Future’.

Kerry expressed hope that at the upcoming COP 26 climate talks, India will indicate the “seriousness of its defined climate actions”.

The US Special envoy emphasised that there was a need to scale up renewable technology to achieve a net-zero goal and projections already indicated that roughly half of the net-zero capabilities will come from emerging technology.

Kerry said the India-US Clean Hydrogen taskforce was a step towards harnessing emerging technologies. He noted how investments in India’s renewable energy sector was quickly bouncing back to pre-pandemic levels.
