September is coming to an end, which means it’s officially Halloween season. And Scholastic Entertainment is celebrating by scaring up some new content. The media division is partnering with Mainframe Studios to develop and produce JumpScare, an animated horror series for kids ages eight to 12.

Every episode will be set at a haunted site, like an asylum or graveyard, and feature a different animation style. The first season is made up of standalone stories, but each episode will be connected in some way to a spooky, shared universe.

Man of Action Entertainment, the writer collective behind Ben 10, has been tapped to write and develop the show. In addition to an original story from MOA, JumpScare will include adaptations of four standalone Scholastic books—Summer’s End, about four kids trapped in a sanatorium by a murderer; Agony House, about a haunted home in New Orleans; The Forgotten Girl, about a spirit out for revenge; and The Dead Girls of Hysteria Hall, about an asylum for troubled girls.

Scholastic Entertainment president Iole Lucchese, SVP and GM Caitlin Friedman, and VP of creative development and TV production Jef Kaminsky will produce the series alongside Mainframe president and CCO Michael Hefferon and SVP of content Gregory Little.

Scary content has been creeping up all over the kids entertainment space in recent months. Scholastic Entertainment recently partnered with Sony Pictures Television and Original Film to develop a live-action series inspired by R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps. Disney+ ordered the eight-episode horror anthology series Just Beyond. And Netflix is also haunting the horror genre with a new animated show inspired by the DeadEndia graphic novels.
