SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD — The season schedule for fall sports at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School has officially been released.

Fall sports schedules have been shortened due to the pandemic. However, as of now, teams and coaches remain optimistic at starting the season.

“We are very excited that we have been able to keep our athletes active and to have an opportunity for them to participate in the sports that they love,” said SPFHS athletic director Ryan Miller.

“In the next few weeks, we will be looking at policies regarding attendance,” Miller added. “One of the issues will be having clear guidance from the governor’s office regarding spectator limits.”

Listed below are the season openers and notable matchups (Westfield) for each team:

Boys Varsity Football:

• Friday, October 2, 7:00 p.m. vs Colonia 

Boys Varsity Soccer:

• Thursday, October 1, 4:00 p.m. @ Plainfield (season opener)
• Tuesday, October 6, 4:00 p.m. vs Westfield

Girls Varsity Soccer: 

• Thursday, October 1, 4:00 p.m. @ Cranford (season opener)
• Tuesday, October 13, 4:00 p.m. @ Westfield
• Tuesday, October 27, 4:00 p.m. vs Westfield 

Girls Varsity Field Hockey:

• Friday, October 2, 4:00 p.m. @ Westfield (season opener)

Boys and Girls Cross Country: 

• Thursday, Oct. 1, 4:00 p.m. vs. Arthur L. Johnson and Westfield (at Oak Ridge Park) 

Girls Varsity Tennis: 

• Tuesday, September 29, 4:00 p.m. vs New Providence (season opener)
• Wednesday, October 7, 4:00 p.m. @ Westfield
