Q-CTRL

Innovation: Quantum firmware

Quantum computers offer revolutionary capabilities for applications ranging from drug discovery to finance. The underlying hardware, however, is extremely unstable, preventing these machines from being put to wide use.

Q-CTRL has developed AI-powered software providing the functionality to transform unstable “bare-metal” quantum hardware into useful computational systems; it is the high-value “VMWare of quantum computing”.

This software, branded as Boulder Opal, can autonomously improve the stability of quantum computers and ultimately deliver useful performance to end-users. Boulder Opal delivers a software abstraction layer in quantum computing called quantum firmware.

InfoTrack

Innovation: The Digital Exchange

InfoTrack’s innovation, Securexchange, modernises the property industry by providing a fast, end-to-end digital solution for property transactions. Securexchange is an online workspace that reforms the way property professionals and their consumers operate.

On this platform, property professionals and their customers (those who are buying or selling a property) can share and sign legal documents and receipt transfer of funds relating to a property sale using a digitally secure platform.

Innovation: Skills Coach

Developed by Culture Amp People Scientists, Skills Coach uses behavioural science and spaced repetition to help managers create new habits within the regular flow of their work. Skills Coach was designed to tackle the inertia, lack of motivation and time-management problems that inevitably work against investing in self-development.

Powered by conversational micro-learning, Skills Coach puts development on autopilot as managers receive micro-learning in the flow of their work – via Slack, Teams or email. With questions or short exercises managers can apply in under two minutes, they get regular support and prompts to help them improve, driving lasting behavioural change.

Xplor

Innovation: Xplor Space

Similar to Airbnb but for the childcare industry, Xplor Space lists childcare centres and their real-time availability, enabling families to find available childcare and enrol directly through the platform for free.

Xplor Space is the only marketplace connected to the Childcare Subsidy (CCS platform), with live vacancy and fee information for parents.

The platform simultaneously solves the problem of maximising occupancy for childcare centres while improving access to early childhood education and care for families. Xplor Space is currently the most comprehensive and intuitive system connecting families and childcare centres in the Australian market.

Class Limited

Innovation: Class Trust

Class Trust is the solution to a significant problem with 92 per cent of respondents still using Excel for their manual accounting of trusts.

As part of the growing Class product suite, Class Trust is an Australian industry-first solution in cloud-based trust accounting and administration. It proudly addresses a major technology gap for administering investment trusts and helps accountants and advisers achieve greater efficiencies.

Based on research conducted by Class Limited, there were previously no solutions that specialised in accounting for investment assets that are commonly held using a trust structure to maximise tax effectiveness.

SixPivot

Innovation: MotoDNA Digital Academy

With motorcycle sales growing across the world by 20 per cent last year despite the pandemic, this innovation is designed to reduce the 285,000 motorcycle fatalities worldwide (23 per cent of all road fatalities) plus the many more riders seriously injured each year in accidents.

Using a GoPro on a rider’s bike, MotoDNA is a data-driven, digital motorcycle academy that enables riders to improve skills with their own online coach.

Developed with Yamaha Motor Co Riders Academy at Sydney Motorsport Park’s innovation hub and SixPivot, the technology uses action camera sensors to measure riders’ behaviour. SixPivot’s algorithms grade the riders’ skill level compared to thousands of other riders then advise the rider how to improve their riding and level up their skills to stay safe.

Vamp

Innovation: The Vamp platform

Vamp’s platform makes influencer marketing safe, easy and effective for everyone, whether you’re a novice or an expert. It empowers brands and agencies to run their own campaigns – and has every tool they need to do so.

The Cast tool aids discoverability, matching brands to a vetted community of influencers based on their needs. A foolproof briefing form simplifies the process, removing potential for error. Dynamic, haggle-free pricing sets a fair fee for both parties, removing the need to negotiate.

A timeline feature allows brands to keep track of multiple campaigns concurrently. Content approvals deliver brand safety. Instant messaging between brand and creator keeps the campaign running smoothly. The results are updated in real time and there’s an easy option to amplify the influencer posts into social platforms as ads.

NEXTDC

Innovation: NEXTneutral

As outlined in the IPCC’s most recent report, climate change caused by human-induced carbon emissions represents an immediate global threat. NEXTDC has launched a carbon-neutral solution called NEXTneutral whereby the company enables customers to offset the carbon generated by their IT equipment and environments that are co-located in any of NEXTDC’s data centres, nationally.

NEXTneutral operates the same way as you would tick a box to offset carbon associated with commercial flights. The carbon is pre-calculated for customers by KW, costing less than a cup of coffee per month. NEXTneutral is a not-for-profit value-added service and all the funds collected are used to source carbon credits through the company’s partnership with Qantas Future Planet.

Sonder’s winning strategy

Designed to support organisations and ensure their people are happy and productive, Sonder’s Holistic Wellbeing Model represents a global first in that it combines technology with human empathy.

While there are plenty of “wellbeing” apps in the marketplace, Sonder’s CEO and co-founder Craig Cowdrey says the app is designed to be a “one-stop solution” for organisations endeavouring to assist staff with issues related to their mental and physical health.

Sonder’s founders realised early that most problems affecting people are multi-dimensional. For example, the reason a person finds themselves homeless or living in a hotel room is probably driven by a multitude of factors, such as financial hardship or domestic violence.

Cowdrey says most help agencies silo issues, whereas the Holistic Wellbeing Model is set up to deal with multi-factor issues affecting a person’s physical safety as well as their mental and physical health.

Beyond the technology layer driving the app, the company employs a 24/7 team of safety, medical and mental health experts that includes doctors, nurses and ex-first responders.

“We take a very personalised approach and engage with people using the app on everyday issues such as the safest route to walk home, so when a crisis emerges they feel comfortable engaging with us,” Cowdrey says.

“Interestingly, 70 per cent of our members who have sought assistance have said that if it wasn’t for Sonder engaging with them on daily issues, they would never have sought assistance.”

For Cowdrey, it’s all about putting the person in the middle, ensuring you reach out to them proactively and are available 24/7.

Cowdrey – a former Army captain, corporate lawyer and diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade – and his co-founders Christopher Marr and Peter Burnheim came up with the idea when they decided they wanted to create a truly “purpose-driven company” that helped people overcome the growing problem of mental health issues.

Sonder seems to have found a niche, and was the first technology company to achieve accreditation for healthcare support services from the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

The company received $16 million in Series A investment earlier this year, and now boasts over 400,000 members nationally.

What further sets it apart is it is pitched at businesses hoping to better help their people through life’s challenges. Already Woolworths, Allianz and Universal Store are on board, as well as a number of other large corporates.

While the company offers rapid assistance, they aren’t to be confused with actual first responders, although Cowdrey says they do liaise with emergency services if needed.

“On a scale of one to 10, where one is a person calling a friend for advice and 10 is calling emergency services, we’re operating in that two to nine space,” Cowdrey says.

“We’re about supporting student and employee care across education providers and business, and that’s something organisations can’t live without.”
