Italy-born Sonia Gandhi initially struggled to study Indian traditions and disliked politics, her daughter and Congress normal secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated on Monday.
Addressing a women-centric conference organised right here by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee within the poll-bound State, the Congress chief stated she was introduced up by two courageous and powerful ladies — her grandmother Indira Gandhi and mom Sonia Gandhi.

She recalled that she was eight-years-old when Indira Gandhi misplaced her 33-year-old son. But the very subsequent day of Sanjay Gandhi’s loss of life, she went to work to serve the nation and that was the sense of responsibility and her “inner shakti”. Indira Gandhi continued to serve the nation till she died.
Priyanka Gandhi stated Sonia Gandhi fell in love with Rajiv Gandhi on the age of 21.
“She (Sonia) got here all the way in which from Italy to India to get married to him. She struggled to study our traditions. She learnt the methods of India. She imbibed every thing from Indiraji and on the age of 44, she misplaced her husband.
“Even although she disliked politics, she took the trail to serving the nation and he or she served all of it her life until at present when she is 76 years previous,” Priyanka Gandhi stated.
Sonia learnt a “very important thing” from Indira Gandhi, she stated.
“No matter what happens to you in your life, no matter how big a tragedy you face, how deep your struggles are… whether at home or work or outside, you have the capacity to stand up and fight for yourself,” Priyanka stated.
