BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Southern University Law Center is planning to host the Sports and Entertainment Symposium virtually on Friday, Sept. 18 and Saturday, Sept. 19.
The law center’s Continuing Legal Education department is hosting the seminar, which will feature legal, music and branding professionals, according to law center Director of External Affairs Jasmine D. Hunter.
“We have students with interest in the sports and entertainment industry and the intersectionality of those genres with the legal profession,” CLE Director Marla Dickerson said. “It is essential to provide students with an understanding of what opportunities are available to them.”
Some panels that attendees will have an opportunity to participate in are “Music Industry 101,” “Brand Protection” and “Sports, Entertainment, and Intellectual Property.”
Law students from Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi who participate panels may be eligible to receive 10 CLE credit hours, according to Hunter.
The event’s keynote speaker will be Donald Woodard, an attorney who currently works as USA Track and Field’s deputy general counsel and chief of business affairs.
The panelists include NCAA Deputy General Counsel Zandria Conyers, Epic Records Senior National Director of Promotion Butch Hartfield, 8th Wonder Brand Management Executive Dominique Lee, NBCUniversal Media Vice President of Business Affairs Jennifer Duval and more.
The $10-seminar is open to students and to other members of the public.
