CHENNAI: The clinical condition of playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who is suffering from Covid-19, remains stable, a medical bulletin issued by MGM Healthcare in Chennai said on Saturday evening.
He is on ventilator and ECMO support in the intensive care unit of the hospital. While the ventilator uses pressure to blow oxygenated air into the lungs, the ECMO pumps blood to a heart-lung machine, which removes carbon dioxide and returns oxygen-filled blood back to tissues.
“He is closely monitored by our multidisciplinary clinical team,” said the bulletin issued by MGM Healthcare assistant director Dr Anuradha Baskaran.
“Our multidisciplinary clinical team is actively collaborating with international experts from reputed centres in the US and the UK that have witnessed large volumes of Covid-19 patients requiring ECMO support,” it said.
“The international experts concur with the clinical care that is being provided by our medical team to SP Balasubrahmanyam,” it said.
The 74-year-old singer was admitted to hospital on August 5 with mild symptoms. His condition deteriorated on August 13.
