McPherson tops No. 1 Andale in straight sets

ANDALE — The McPherson High School volleyball team is now 6-0 on the season after sweeping a triangular with Winfield and Andale on Tuesday.

The Bullpups defeated Andale – ranked No. 1 in Class 4A – 25-23, 25-23 for a statement win.

McPherson trailed 10-4 against Andale in the first set, but tied it up at 16. The first set was also tied at 19, 21, and 23, before the Bullpups won the final two points of the set.

In the second set, the Bullpups trailed 20-17, but came back and won eight of the next 11 points.

“Andale brought a good crowd, no fan limitation and it was senior night,” McPherson head coach Christy Doile said. “It wasn’t an easy match, we weren’t perfect. Andale is a tough team and I was impressed how we handled the pressure.”

McPherson also defeated Winfield 25-9, 25-11.

“Against Winfield, we tried a different line-up to test out a new combination,” Doile said. “With the new line-up we were a bit choppy or out of synch, however we were still able to compete.”

McPherson, ranked sixth in 5A, is next in action on Sept. 8 at a triangular in Towanda. Along with Circle, third in 4A, Winfield will also be in attendance.
