The girls team did not have enough runners to score as a team but were led by Molly Dailey, who finished 12th in 26:04. COACH’S QUOTE: “Those were extreme conditions out there today, 89 degrees at race time. Between that and the COVID-19 adjustments, both teams competed very well. On the guys side, we were close to getting the overall win so that is good. We beat the defending 2019 D4 state champions, Breckenridge, the 2019 D4 runner up, Unionville-Sebewaing, as well as a D2 team in Alma. Our senior leadership helped us out today (Coleman, Jared, Calvin) and they will be our foundation throughout the season. We have some positives and some things to work on the rest of the way. It was a good day for the guys and a good start to the season. It was a tough day for the girls as we are small in numbers. We had one runner succumb to the heat but the four finishers competed well in spite of the heat and the perfect score of 15 from Ithaca’s girls. The positives for the girls were that they competed and the negatives were the scoring and the heat.” — Grant Woodman. NEXT: at Ithaca Invitational Wednesday.
