PITTSBURGH — Yadier Molina hit a two-run homer and Jack Flaherty struck out 11 as the St. Louis Cardinals kept their hold on a postseason spot with a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.
Molina’s home run to the bleachers in left field came in the seventh inning off Derek Holland and extended St. Louis’ winning streak to a season-high four games. The Cardinals had been shut out by Joe Musgrove over the first six innings.
Flaherty (4-2) allowed only one run and two hits in six innings while walking two. It was his ninth career double-digit strikeout game..
Flaherty had been tagged for a career-worst nine runs in three innings in his previous start Tuesday at Milwaukee.
The Cardinals (26-24) hold a one-game lead on Cincinnati (27-27) and Milwaukee (26-26) for second place in the NL Central with one week left in the regular season. The top two finishers in each division gain berths in the expanded postseason during this pandemic-affected season.

Ronald Acuna Jr. homered off Rick Porcello (1-6) to break a scoreless tie in the sixth and finished with four RBIs. Travis d’Arnaud added a two-run double for his latest clutch hit against his former team.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Brandon Crawford hit a grand slam, Chadwick Tromp and Darin Ruf added two-run homers, and San Francisco prevented Oakland from clinching the AL West title at home.
The Giants earned their first win in six tries during this year’s Bay Bridge Series.

MIAMI (AP) — Kurt Suzuki homered and doubled to bounce back from a game-ending strikeout in the opener, and Washington routed playoff-contending Miami to split a doubleheader.
In the opener, Marlins reliever Brandon Kintzler fanned Suzuki with the bases loaded to preserve the win.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Mike Moustakas hit a two-run single as Cincinnati scored five times in the fourth inning on just one hit.
Aristides Aquino hit a two-run homer as the surging Reds stayed in contention for a playoff spot, taking two out of three from the the AL Central leaders for their seventh win in eight games.

DENVER (AP) — Antonio Senzatela pitched efficiently into the seventh inning as Colorado avoided a sweep and delayed the Dodgers from clinching their eighth straight NL West title.
Senzatela (5-2) carried over his command from his last start when he turned in his first career complete game. He allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings.
INDIANS 7, TIGERS 4
DETROIT (AP) — Carlos Carrasco allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings, and Jose Ramirez homered twice to lift Cleveland.
Carrasco (3-4) struck out 11. The Indians took three of four in this series after entering on an eight-game losing streak and are closing in on a postseason berth.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Daniel Vogelbach hit two homers and drove in all five runs as Milwaukee swept the three-game series.
Vogelbach, claimed by the Brewers off waivers earlier this month, hit a two-run drive in the first inning off Brad Keller (4-3). He hit a three-run drive in the sixth.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Kyle Cody earned his first major league win as Texas hit a season-high five home runs.
Joey Gallo, Anderson Tejada, Sam Huff, Rougned Odor and Derek Dietrich homered for the Rangers.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run homer and Taijuan Walker tossed six sharp innings to help the Toronto Blue Jays snap a six-game losing streak with a win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Phillies slugger Bryce Harper exited with lower back stiffness after he struck out with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
TWINS 4, CUBS 0
CHICAGO (AP) — Max Kepler homered, Jose Berrios threw six shutout innings to outduel Yu Darvish and the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago Cubs.
Kepler had three hits and Josh Donaldson added two for the Twins, who took two of three from the NL Central-leading Cubs.

HOUSTON (AP) — George Springer homered twice, including an inside-the-park shot, to lead the Houston Astros over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Carlos Correa drove in the go-ahead run for Houston with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
