Kochi: The Kerala State Sports Council will establish a women’s football academy to mould talented women football players in the state. Kerala Blasters and Gokulam Kerala, two of the leading football clubs in Kerala, will also join hands with the Sports Council. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the academy on Thursday evening and Sports Minister V Abdurahiman will preside over the function.
The Director of the Sports and Youth Affairs Geromic George IAS, President of Kerala State Sports Council Mercy Kuttan, and Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Department Dr Sharmila Mary Joseph IAS will be in charge of the academy.
The Kochi Panampilly Nagar Stadium under the Ernakulam District Sports Council will be used for the training.
The organisers have set a big goal of developing the best women’s football team to compete in national and international competitions. For this, a maximum number of women football players will be given admission to the academy.
The academy will be started at GV Raja Sports School and Kannur Sports School as well. The Sports Youth Office will provide world-class facilities for the students admitted here. There will be world-class artificial football ground, sports equipment, sports medicine and rehabilitation facility, best coaches, best management facility, strength and conditioning expert, nutrition expert, world-class education system and data management analysis platform to assess the progress of each athlete.
