Speaking about the experience, Sushmita Sen mentioned, “The privilege of representing & winning for my Motherland is an honour so profound, it brings me to tears of joy even today…29 years later. I celebrate & remember this day with great pride as History bears witness, INDIA won Miss Universe for the first time ever on 21st May 1994 in Manila #philippines (Mahal Kita ).”

Addressing her followers, Sushmita Sen added, “Thank you all for the love, goodness, and the most beautiful messages…forever cherished. I love you guys!!!! #duggadugga.”

In a latest interview with former actress and writer Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita Sen spoke concerning the successful second and the way the primary runner-up’s response to the crowning second taught her grace. Adding that the win got here as a “big shock”, she mentioned: “Because winning Miss Universe is making history for my country. One of the things that was ingrained while I left from here was, don’t expect much, so that victory was a different victory all together. And you won’t believe it Venezuela walked away and just Columbia I stood together. That memory of me winning it, and her hands going up in the air like that, as if she had won – that taught me tremendous grace. It showed me generosity of spirit, oh my God, and that someone like me needed the crown to know that grace. She didn’t need it. She had it.”
