Team India canceled their final training session ahead of their inconsequential Super 12 game against Namibia on Monday in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

India’s campaign in the tournament was ended after New Zealand defeated Afghanistan in Sunday’s afternoon game at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. With the win, the Kiwis qualified for the semifinals alongside Pakistan, who had already made the knockouts.

Virat Kohli and co. needed an Afghan upset but it wasn’t to be and with that, they will exit in the group stages of an ICC event for the first time in more than ten years. Tomorrow’s match against Namibia will also be Kohli’s final game as the T20I skipper of the national side.

According to India Today, the team also called off its optional practice session following New Zealand’s victory. The reason for the same hasn’t been revealed but the general understanding is that the team is quite disappointed with its campaign as they were considered one of the favorites heading into the World Cup.

The Men in Blue lost their first two games in the Super 12 stage. They were thrashed by 10 wickets by an inspired Pakistan team before the Kiwis handed them another loss, this time by 8 wickets. Although they recovered quite well against Scotland and Afghanistan, it was too late and they have now been eliminated from the World Cup.

England and Australia advanced from Group 1 while Pakistan and New Zealand made it out of the Super 12 stage in Group 2. The fixtures will be confirmed once Pakistan’s final match against Scotland concludes.
