CHENNAI: Actor Kamal Haasan‘s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) on Wednesday crictised the Union government for allocating less funds to Tamil Nadu under the Khelo India scheme to improve sports infrastructure. The party lashed at the BJP government for the disparity in allocation of funds and appointment of coaches for various sports and games.
Stating that the Union government had allocated ₹608 crore to Gujarat as against ₹33 crore to Tamil Nadu under the scheme, party vice-president R Thangavel, “TN had received funds lower than what Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh had got.”
His statement came in response to Union sports minister Anurag Thakur’s statement in parliament a couple of days ago. Similarly, the Centre had appointed 121 coaches to Delhi and 56 to Assam but appointed only 18 coaches to various sporting disciplines in TN.
