Target says it has pulled a e book from its Black History Month assortment after a buyer observed it mislabeled three outstanding Civil Rights icons.

In a video posted to TikTok, highschool U.S. historical past instructor Issa Tete says she purchased the “Civil Rights Magnetic Learning Kit” to share together with her college students in honor of the vacation.

However, when opening the e book, she found a number of discrepancies: the product incorrectly labels three civil rights icons — American sociologist and historian W.E.B. Du Bois; writer and educator Booker T. Washington; and historian and journalist Carter G. Woodson.

Du Bois’ picture was labeled as Woodson, Woodson was labeled as Washington and Washington was labeled as Du Bois.

“I get it, mistakes happen,” Tete stated within the now-viral video. “But this needs to be corrected ASAP … I don’t know who’s in charge of Target, but these need to be pulled off the shelves, like, immediately.”

Since it was posted to social media on Tuesday, the video has been seen over 850,000 instances.

“I was not going to let that slide for my 200 students and I was not going to let that slide for my two babies who I am responsible (for) teaching,” she stated in a follow-up video posted Thursday.

Bendon Publishing, the e book’s writer, didn’t instantly reply to NPR’s request for remark.

In a press release to NPR, Target stated the corporate will not promote the product in its shops or on-line, and that it notified Bendon of the errors.

February marks Black History Month, a practice that obtained its begin within the Jim Crow period and was formally acknowledged in 1976 as a part of the nation’s bicentennial celebrations.

Dating again to 1926, Woodson, the scholar sometimes called the “father of Black history,” established Negro History Week to focus consideration on Black contributions to civilization.

The month-long commemoration goals to honor the contributions that African Americans have made and to acknowledge their sacrifices.

Black History Month is well known within the United States and Canada each February, whereas celebrated in October within the United Kingdom.
